Those who view camping only as a summer activity are truly missing out on some unique features that can only be found during the fall camping season. That’s right — the fall camping season! Autumn is actually a great time to enjoy camping and the outdoors. Many find camping in the fall to be even more relaxing and enjoyable than what they experience during the summer months. As it turns out, there are more than a few reasons why many camping enthusiasts decide to extend their camping trips beyond the traditional summer season.
Fewer Crowds
While there are many positive aspects to summer camping, a crowded campground isn’t one of them. Camping in the fall is much better suited for those who want to vacation in a low-key, more relaxed environment. During the fall, the crowds have long since gone, leaving vacationers with only nature and cooler temperatures to enjoy.
Cheaper Rates
Campground rates and rates for local tourist attractions and activities are typically much less expensive than what campers find during the busy summer months. Of course, some campgrounds may stop taking reservations after the summer season, so it’s best to call ahead to determine whether a favorite campground is still open and if so, whether they’ve reverted to a first come first serve basis.
Unique Aspects of Fall Camping
Autumn is a beautiful time of year to get outdoors and enjoy a host of activities in comfort. Temperatures moderate, which makes activities such as hiking, fishing, kayaking, etc. much more enjoyable than engaging in the same activities during the hot, humid months of summer. A leisurely walk through a sparsely populated campground and perhaps an adjacent forest to view all the fall foliage, is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. Later in the evening, sipping a cup of hot cocoa in front of a toasty campfire and gazing up at a canopy of stars is a magical way to end a relaxing day.
Take advantage of these cooler temperatures and get some good use out of your camper or RV! And when you’re ready to store it for the winter season, give us a call!
