Flushing Your RV’s Water Tank Before Taking it Out of Storage

The kids are running around in their floaties, your better-half has done some shopping and an epic summer-route has been prepared. Now, you just need to take care of flushing your water tanks to make sure everyone will get safe water before you hit the road.

Flushing Your RV's Water Tank Before Taking it Out of Storage

Don’t worry, it’s a quick job.  Just follow these 3 simple steps to flush out your RVs water System and disinfect your tanks.

  1. Flush your Water Tank. Pull out your clean water house and connect one end to your fresh water intake connection on your RV and the other to a garden tap. Jump inside your rig and turn on all the faucets, come back out and open up your grey tank, turn on your water source and let the system flush with water until the water runs clean. Give it a whiff.  If it still smells of antifreeze, keep flushing. If you want to remove any residual taste or odor of antifreeze, flush once, add a box of baking soda to a full tank of water, let it sit, then come back a few hours later and flush again. Of course, make sure the grey tank is connected to a sewer line or a bucket to catch the grey tank water.
  2. Disenfect. Follow the same process from step number 1 with your holding tank. Just turn the pump on and flush it with fresh water until it runs clean. Then, remove any remaining bacteria or mold by disinfecting the system. Simply, fill the tank with water and add one cup of liquid bleach for each 30 gallons of water. Let the bleach and water mix sit in the tank for no more than two hours (any longer and your seals could be damaged!), then flush it with clean water again.
  3. Keep your water clean and tasty. Every time you fill your water tanks, add a tablespoon of bleach or one of the many available water purification solutions or tablets into your water system. Remember: RV water sits in a hot, dark place and can quickly become undrinkable. If you have any doubts, don’t drink the water!  Repeat these steps.

Enclosed, Covered, or Uncovered: What Type of Trailer Storage is Right For You?

Your tow trailer is one of your most valued assets.  Monetarily, it is an investment that you protect and maintain with care.  On a sentimental note, it is your home away from home – your refuge made for adventures, memories, and experiences that you will cherish for life.

Enclosed, Covered, or Uncovered: What Type of Trailer Storage is Right For You?

Your tow trailer is built tough – it’s made to withstand all types of inclement weather and the elements of nature.  Despite its heavy-duty exterior, however, it is not exempt from wear and tears over time.

Having your tow trailer stored securely is essential to its care and is just as important as the hands-on upkeep you provide for your rig throughout the year.  The list of trailer storage benefits is lengthy, but a few key points will help you decide whether or not a storage facility is right for you and which options will provide your trailer with the necessary protection to keep it safe while you’re on the road.

Enclosed Storage

A fully enclosed storage area provides the highest level of protection for your off-season rig.  Not only will you have the benefit of full-weather coverage, the effort you put into the care and maintenance of your trailer will be extended, saving you time and money.  You will also appreciate the comfort of knowing an enclosed and locked unit creates an extra layer of security from unwanted pests and people.

Party Barn Boat and RV Storage offers fully enclosed 12′ x 30′ storage facilities that feature either 9.5′ clearance with concrete foundation or 8′ clearance with gravel foundation, depending on your preference and needs.

Covered Storage

Covered storage is generally desired for tow trailers that are too large for an enclosed unit.  Access to a covered storage area that is not fully enclosed can be faster and more efficient if you use your tow trailer more regularly, allowing you to quickly and easily dock and move your rig.  Heavy duty steel construction ensures that your trailer will be protected from hail, rain, and snow, and the option of electricity with a covered space will allow you to store your rig with little preparation for shorter periods of time.

Party Barn offers various lengths and clearance with our 12′ wide storage areas to suit the needs of your tow trailer.  Our covered parking is secure and easily accessible to clients and allows the option of spaces with and without electricity.

Uncovered Storage

Uncovered storage areas are ideal for those with multiple rigs they wish to rotate throughout the year. You have the advantage of easiest access to your tow trailer and plenty of room for winterizing and maintenance before storing your trailer for long periods of time.  Uncovered parking is a secure and safe way to store your tow trailer and provides ultimate accessibility to your rig.

Party Barn Boat and RV Storage offers 12′ x 30′ uncovered, secure parking for your tow trailer.  Our five-acre lot is located only three miles from both Lake Lavon and Lake Ray Hubbard, making our uncovered storage spaces ideal for those who use their tow trailers regularly.

Three Reasons You Need Camper Storage Year Round

Many people think of camper storage as being something that is only required during the winter. That’s not necessarily the case, as there are plenty of reasons to utilize a storage facility year round. Here are three benefits to doing so you may not have thought about.

Three Reasons You Need Camper Storage Year Round#1. Protects your vehicle from theft and vandalism

You have a lot of money invested in your camper, so the last thing you want is for criminals to target it. When it is parked inside our secure storage area, the odds of it being stolen or vandalized are greatly diminished. Leave it with us whenever you are not using it, and you can have peace of mind knowing it is in great condition when you are ready to pick it up again.

#2. Prevents your driveway from becoming too crowded

Let’s face it-campers take up a lot of room in your driveway. Having an extra vehicle parked there could make coming and going a hassle, and might even create an eyesore for your neighbors. It could be an especially big problem if you are expecting company and find your guests now have to park on the street. The best way to regain full use of your driveway is to move your camper into one of our secure storage spaces.

#3. Ensures you maintain your storage slot

Many recreational vehicle owners do not even think about storage rental until the end of summer. By that time, there is often a rush to secure storage spaces before they are all taken. This is something you won’t have to worry about if you maintain your storage spot year round.

Year-round camper storage allows you to enjoy your vehicle whenever you choose, while still having the peace of mind that comes from knowing it is protected when not in use. Here at Party Barn Self Storage, we have covered, uncovered, and enclosed units that are suitable for a variety of purposes, and invite you to contact us today to find out more.

4 Tips for Keeping Your RV In Shape

When your RV is not being used, it’s important that you keep it well maintained during those times. Without doing so, parts can break down and lose their functionality. Here are a few tips to help you out.

4 Tips for Keeping Your RV In Shape

Make Sure Your Seals Are Working

In order to keep your RV nice and dry, the seals on your roof and around your doors and windows need to be able to keep out any moisture. Over time, however, seals can start to crack and loosen. It’s a good idea to check your seals every few months, or even replace your seals and reseal your doors and windows for good measure.

Look Underneath

Take a look underneath your RV every now and then. Check out all the parts. Make sure nothing seems out of the ordinary or broken.

Keep It Cool

If you’re storing your RV outside, it can heat up during the summer months. Temperatures inside your RV can reach well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. This can cause damage to inside parts and accessories. To prevent this from happening, open the vents. An even better solution is to store your RV in an indoor self-storage facility.

Keep the Roof Covered

Rain, heat, snow, hail, falling branches, cold weather, hot weather, and more can damage your RV. Keeping your RV’s roof covered can help prevent a lot of this damage. Use an indoor or covered RV storage facility to store your RV while you are away.

Long-Term Auto Storage: A Good Option When Fixing Up a Classic Car

If you are in the process of fixing up a classic car, you might be excited about finally being able to hit the road with your vehicle. However, you might have a long road of repairs ahead of you before this can happen. If this is the case, then you may want to consider long-term auto storage at a facility like Party Barn Boat & RV Storage. Here’s why.

Long-Term Auto Storage: A Good Option When Fixing Up a Classic Car

Avoid Cluttering Your Garage

If you are like many people, you might have limited space in your garage. If you keep your classic car in there while you’re working on it, you might not have room to park your other (running) vehicles, your lawn equipment or anything else. If you rent a storage unit, however, you’ll have space to store your car, and you’ll be able to use your garage at home normally.

Avoid Problems with Your HOA

If you live in a neighborhood with a homeowner’s association, there might be a rule about having non-running vehicles on your property. By keeping your classic car off-site, you won’t have to worry about running into any problems with your HOA.

Give Yourself Room to Work

You might be planning on spending a lot of time working on your classic car. If you have it in a long-term auto storage facility, you’ll have space to keep tools and parts, and you’ll have room to work on your vehicle as well.

As you can see, if you are working on fixing up a classic car, it can be a good idea to look into long-term auto storage. If this is something that you are interested in, contact us today to find out more about the storage options that we offer!

3 Options for Storing Your RV

Looking for a place to store your RV trailer between trips? There are a number of options available, and they all have pros and cons. Let’s go through them, one by one.

4 Options for Storing Your RV

At Your Home

You can store your trailer at your home. It doesn’t cost anything, but it comes with many cons. Most people don’t have room in their garage, which means that you’ll have to store it outside. The problem with this is that there is no security, especially when you’re not home. In addition, it can be an eyesore and annoy your neighbors. Besides, there may be zoning laws preventing you from parking it on the street.

Uncovered Storage

Uncovered storage at a trailer storage facility is a very popular way of storing RVs. It’s pretty cheap and convenient, and you have access to your RV whenever you want. The storage area is protected by a security gate, so your RV is safe. The downside is that your RV will be exposed to the elements, including rain.

Covered Storage

Covered storage is also outdoor storage, but your RV will be covered overhead. This protects it from most weather elements, especially during the summer. It doesn’t protect it from things like wind, moisture, and insects, but you can always prevent damage by using insect screens, ventilating your RV to prevent moisture buildup and so on. It’s a good compromise between outdoor and indoor storage.

Taking Your Boat Out of Storage and Into the Water

Those April showers are over, now is time for May flowers and that beautiful boating weather. But before you wheel your water toy out of our trailer and boat storage facility and into the water, you’ll want to do a quick check of the important components. That’s because while our boat storage facility keeps your equipment secure and safe from inclement weather, it’s still good to check all of your electrical and other sensitive components before firing up the ignition and zipping across the bay. Consider this quick engine and electric checklist:

Taking Your Boat Out of Storage and Into the Water

  • Begin by verifying that your battery holds a charge. Use a plug-in wall charger if your battery is at a medium-low charge. If depleted, replace.
  • Inspect all of the local connections for signs of corrosion, brush off any rust if minor or replace if major.
  • Inspect fluid levels and either top off or change as needed.
  • Inspect the boat’s fuel hoses for any breakage or cracking. You also want to ensure they aren’t soft or brittle anywhere and that all fittings and clamps are rust-free and secure.
  • Inspect engine belts and hoses and replace any that show signs of wear and tear.

Additionally, now is a great time to check your propeller for any distortion and do a once-over on your hull. If you plan on putting your boat into the brackish water, make sure it has the proper protective coating.

Spring Weather Calls for Enclosed Storage

Spring in Texas is beautiful! From the bluebonnets blooming to the birds singing, there is much to love about this time of year in the Lone Star State. However, there is one thing Texas natives do not look forward to this time of year.  Weather is unpredictable, and spring storms can blow in at a moments notice.

Spring Weather Calls for Enclosed Storage

Plan Ahead

If you do not plan ahead for the spring weather, the storms have the potential to cause a lot of damage. Life is often unpredictable, but there are things that you can do to prepare for the storms and protect your property. This is why enclosed storage is so important, especially in this part of the country where weather patterns vary drastically from day-to-day.

Weather Forecast

If the weatherman says there is hail in the area, the last thing you want to worry about is whether your boat or RV will be hit. By securing your RV or boat in an enclosed storage facility, you can rest easy knowing your boat or RV is under a cover and not left unprotected from elements.

3 Reasons Boat Storage Is Better Than Storing Your Boat at Home

As a proud boat owner, you love your boat and want to make sure that this prized possession of yours stays safe and sound. But what is the best way to do that? Should you store your boat on your driveway, front or back lawn, or in an indoor boat storage facility? Here are some things to consider.

3 Reasons Boat Storage Is Better Than Storing Your Boat at Home

Have Peace of Mind

Having your boat securely kept in a locked indoor facility will give you the peace of mind necessary to travel places. What if you want to go to your winter home for a few month each year? What if you want to take a summer vacation for a week? When your boat is secure and protected, you can always travel without worrying about theft.

Keep Its Value

You never know when you might want to sell your boat. Perhaps you will want to upgrade to a better quality boat sometime in the future, and being able to sell your old boat will help you finance your new purchase. Having an “always garaged” boat will keep its value high. It will protect your boat from damage by the elements, whether that be sun, rain, hail, snow, ice, wind or falling trees.

Save Space

Unless you live in a mansion on a multi-acre property, you probably don’t have enough space for a full-sized boat. You need your garage for your cars and your kids’ bikes. You need the back lawn for hanging out, a swingset for your kids, and family barbecues. And hey, maybe your boat is taking up space you can use for a swimming pool. In any case, using a storage facility will clear up precious space.
